To Saint George
By Ursula K. Le Guin
Woman is worm.
Toothless and trodden-on
earthworm, leaven of garden.
She knows the tongueworm
and bigbrother cockworm
and heartworm. She knows
the wombworm
nestling within her.
She knows beginnings
and undersides. She knows
the oneworm, the roundworm
unending, hollow, all, egg,
being the dragon.
Saint, better get her
before she talks.
